Atop the sloped south-west bank of our pond sits the aptly named Hilltop. A year-round private home until 2003, its upscale construction and amazing view have made it much sought-after in its short rental life. With a grassy lawn in the rear, a charming stone path to the pond, and the secluded wooded setting, Hilltop offers a serene retreat for vacationers. It is located near the end of a gated road off of Upper Lambert’s Cove Road. The main living area of Hilltop is enormous, with its combined living/dining room completely open to the kitchen and entryway. A cathedral ceiling gives it a luxurious vastness, while the cedar and mahogany walls and floors keep it warm and inviting. Central air conditioning offers relief on the hottest days of the summer. Sofas and throw pillows provide space to lounge in front of the wood-burning stove, while three sets of sliding glass doors showcase a view of the pond. A closer view of the water is obtained from the large and brand new (fall 2009) deck. The kitchen is well-supplied with service for twelve, modern cookware and appliances, and bright windows. The dining room is close, for easy serving, and is perfectly situated between views of the forest and the water. The master suite’s romantic fireplace and spacious layout contribute to its sumptuous appeal, with a queen-sized bed and water view. There are three bedrooms on the lower level, where a large and newly renovated second bedroom boasts a queen-sized bed, fireplace, and sliders to a brick patio and the path to the pond! The third and fourth bedrooms contain a total of five twin beds (including a set of bunk beds.) The pond is accessible from the path, and offers excellent swimming and canoeing. Hilltop is a house like no other on the island — the lap of luxury with the comforts of home! |
